Eichler Romanza: Midcentury Modern Tract Housing in Orange

On May 18, 2019, Preserve Orange County hosted a panel discussion about the historic Eichler Homes developments (1960 to 1964) in Orange. Entitled, Eichler Romanza, as an homage to Frank Lloyd Wright’s California period and his influence on builder, Joseph Eichler, and the architects he commissioned, the discussion was held as an evening event during the weekend-long, Eichler Home Tour. It was moderated by Trudi Sandmeier, Director, Heritage Conservation Programs, USC School of Architecture, and panelists included Robert Imboden, historic resources consultant and on the team that developed the City of Orange Eichler Design Standards; Alan Hess, architect and historian who’s published widely on postwar Southern California architectural history; and Tom Zoellner, author and professor of English at Chapman University, who teaches a course on Orange County Literature.
